Matthew Hughes, Prosthetist / Orthotist / MD of Dorset Orthopaedic

Matthew Hughes is the Managing Director at Dorset Orthopaedic, part of the Ottobock group. With 3 permanent clinics and 5 satellite clinics in the UK, Dorset Orthopaedic have a leading reputation in the field of private prosthetic and orthotic rehabilitation, as well as a global reputation in the production of high definition prosthetic silicone products which are supplied to clinical partners world-wide.

Matthew joined Dorset Orthopaedic in 2001 after graduating from Salford University with a degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics. He began his career with Dorset Orthopaedic as an Orthotist and Prosthetist, developing a particular interest in paediatric prosthetic and orthotic treatment as well as general lower limb prosthetics and orthotics. In 2006 Matthew graduated from Bournemouth University with an MBA which he undertook part-time over a 3-year period whilst continuing his work at Dorset Orthopaedic.

Before becoming Clinic Manager at the Ringwood Clinic in 2013, Matthew was responsible for the development of clinical partners for Dorset Orthopaedic around the world, presenting and lecturing on the use of silicone in prosthetics and orthotics, as well as developing new everyday silicone solutions for patients. In 2014 Matthew received the Individual Professional Award at the Limbless Association P&O Awards for his outstanding service.

Matthew became Clinical Services Director in 2016 and was responsible for growing and developing clinical care services in the UK and external silicone partner networks on behalf of Dorset Orthopaedic. Matthew remains clinically focused and is passionate about the hands on aspect of his job, helping patients return to improved levels of comfort, mobility and independence.
