Event Overview:
We all know that peer support can play a crucial role in reducing isolation and loneliness, but we have also found that client-to-client interactions can break down some of the rehabilitation barriers that we may face as healthcare professionals. We will be looking at how the role of peer support/client liaisons can promote client engagement and support clients to adopt rehab strategies and coping mechanisms when the MDT have struggled to implement them.
Jake will be sharing his own personal story having been involved in a road traffic collision which left him with multiple orthopaedic and neurological injuries. Following brain injury or any catastrophic injury, clients can struggle with feelings of loss, anger and identity. Jake will talk about his struggles and accomplishments following his injuries but will particularly focus on the importance of giving back and providing peer support to others who are going through similar experiences. In doing so, he has created a new identity through his work as a personal trainer and as client liaison at Rehabilitate Therapy Ltd.
