Meet the Presenter
Holly Mieville-Hawkins is a Senior Associate Solicitor and the Head of Mental Capacity at Michelmores LLP. She is a passionate advocate for the rights of individuals who lack the mental capacity to make decisions for themselves, often due to brain injury, stroke, or dementia. Her dedication to this cause reflects her vocational commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals, their families, deputies, and attorneys.
Holly's expertise encompasses a wide range of issues, including appointing deputies and attorneys, managing day-to-day financial matters both onshore and offshore, addressing gifting concerns, and determining capacity to litigate. She also handles matters related to the capacity to marry, buying and selling property, making wills, and addressing financial abuse. Additionally, Holly frequently advises other teams at Michelmores LLP on mental capacity issues.
In addition to her client work, Holly contributes to shaping policy regarding mental capacity law. She is a founding member of the practitioner group that established the Mediation in the Court of Protection pilot scheme and serves as Deputy Chair of the Mental Capacity Special Interest Group for STEP. Holly is also a member of the South West Court of Protection Practitioners Association and a stakeholder at the Office of the Public Guardian.
Holly holds a full STEP diploma and is an accredited member of Solicitors for the Elderly, with a qualification in Older Client Care in Practice. She has authored numerous articles for various professional publications.
