30. The missing piece of postural management – Dynamic Splinting, completing the jigsaw and making postural management truly 24/7

Learning Aims:

To provide case managers with an understanding of postural management.

To demonstrate how dynamic splinting is an option in the postural management plan.

To review the risk factors for scoliosis and early identification signs and how splinting can be an early intervention tool.


What will attendees learn?

  1. The different varieties of splints and garments available and their uses.
  2. How to determine when intervention is needed and how dynamic splinting fits into the big picture.

How will attendees benefit from the webinar?

  1. Attendees will be able to advise their clients of an alternative option to rigid, not always well tolerated, splints.
  2. They will be able to suggest splinting and source it at the right time for their clients.
  3. They will have a better understanding of splinting options that might be presented to them by other physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

Case Managers from all backgrounds who work with children and adults with neurological conditions.


Meet the Presenters

Maggie Dawson has been a physiotherapist for over 15 years and has spent most of her time specialising in paediatrics and neurological conditions.  She has worked in the UK, Australia and the Cayman Islands in both private and public sectors.  Maggie has a keen interest in early intervention, functional targeted physiotherapy and posture management.

Claire Farley qualified as a Physiotherapist from Kings College London and has since spent time working in both the NHS and private sectors. Claire has been part of the Second Skin team since 2022 and, during this time, has worked in the splinting clinics across the UK and Ireland. Claire has a particular interest in neurological splinting, hydrotherapy, and equine facilitated therapy.
