The art of case management in therapeutic collaboration; reviewing the case manager therapeutic relationship, code of ethics and the art of facilitating challenging conversations

  • Review some models for communicating including an introduction to different communication styles and transferrable communication strategies to get the best out of people
  • Refresher of skills for excellence in communication including planning, the importance of listening and skilled questioning

Think Therapy 1st  will be providing a presentation on their services with an educational perspective before the lunchtime break. 

Think Therapy 1st (TT1st) is a highly specialised Occupational Therapy service. Our Specialist Rehabilitation Occupational Therapists work with with physical, mental and cognitive difficulties following Severe and Catastrophic injuries, to develop, recover or maintain independence in daily living, work/education and leisure skills. They do this by using dynamic, multifaceted and meaningful activities to restore the highest possible level of function and use a project-based approach. The interventions are highly effective, with one activity often fulfilling the same role as 3 or 4 traditional exercises. By structuring rehab to rebalance lives, Specialist Rehabilitation Occupational Therapy is not a chore, but meaningful, purposeful and nearly always fun!

We also deliver 12 session, 1-2-1 home (and community) based functional restoration programmes for Pain, Anxiety & fatigue.

Impact: Last 20 closed cases - average function on assessment 43% of pre-injury status - post intervention back to 91% of pre-injury status!


Virtual Administration will be providing a presentation on their services with an educational perspective during the afternoon break. 

We provide Virtual PA and secretarial support services to Case Managers and Independent Therapists.  The services we offer include invoicing, formatting reports, audio transcription, updating patient record management systems, producing contracts and terms and conditions, proof reading high quality, court compliant documents for expert witnesses.

We also support Case Managers in getting CQC registered and inspection ready, helping to complete the registered application and documentation, along with Key Lines of Enquiry, policies and audits.

Meet the Presenters:

About Jo: Jo Evans has worked in a variety of setting working as  an Occupational Therapist since 1990. She has worked throughout the UK and in the USA.  Her work history has spanned adults with learning disability, working with adults within trauma and orthopaedics, acute and longer term management of people with neurological conditions. Her particular field of interest has been working within the field of  traumatic and acquired brain injury.

Jo left working with the NHS in 2002 and moved into working within the private sector. Jo became involved in co ordinating multidisciplinary rehabilitation to individuals who had experienced TBI , co-ordinating the community  based goals and assisting individuals and families to recover supported  independence in their lives . Jo also enjoyed providing education/ training  and supervision to Occupational Therapists  developing these skills and support workers utilising skills daily to support individuals goals.

In 2010, Jo founded her case management company and enjoys working alongside a great team of likeminded professionals providing case management nationally.  Jo is Chair of the CMSUK Events Committee, driving and implementing ideas for training events, webinars and CMSUK conferences with her committee members.

About Sue: Sue Ford is a qualified as a Nurse (RGN/RSCN) in 1989, working in various adult and children’s nursing settings in London and Sheffield, before qualifying as a nurse teacher and working in healthcare education for many years.  Following an increasing interest in case management and rehabilitation, Sue left her role at the University of York in 2011 to become a Director/Case Manager at Bridge Case Management. 

She carries a caseload of clients, mainly polytrauma and serious orthopaedic cases, adults and children, and is passionate about promoting the added value good case management can bring to client outcomes.  Sue is Vice Chair of the CMSUK Board, Chair of the Membership Committee and led the development of the 2018 revision to the Code of Ethics.  Sue is keen to use her experience in education to support the ongoing work of the CMSUK on the development of professional pathways for case managers and to ensure best practice is shared and developed.

About Catherine: Catherine Brown is the founder of Skilful Conversation Ltd. She is passionate about bringing the positive aspects of self-development to lawyers and other professionals who deal with them, bringing a fresh approach to coaching and training by combining nearly two decades of working with companies and individuals, initially as a practising barrister at Kings Chambers, Manchester and, more recently, as a trainer, facilitator and coach.
As a trainer, Catherine specialises in demystifying law and legal procedure for those who need to do battle within it, both lawyers and parties, helping them to understand each other, and the environment they are working in. For experts and professional people this extends to skills in written and oral evidence, as well as communication with professionals and lay people. She has also channelled her experience from working with those outside the legal system to develop courses for lawyers to improve their communication skills and understand their clients and experts more fully.
