The Board at CMSUK were sad to hear of the death of Dr Fred Middleton. He was a pioneer in advancing spinal injury rehabilitation in the UK and developed the role of case manager at Stanmore for his spinal injured patients. Stanmore were one of the Founding Members of CMSUK and his input was invaluable in understanding how case managers could work collaboratively within the NHS. He believed and was an advocate of multi-disciplinary working across all sectors and was involved in the Bodily Injuries Claims Management Group (BICMA) the committee that developed The Rehabilitation Code of Practice, that many of us use in daily in our professional life. He practiced his belief in true multi-disciplinary working to address all the needs of his patients regardless of where those resources needed to come from, they were welcome at the table if it was to the benefit of his patient. He will be greatly missed.
