CMSUK Webinar: Designing Homes with a Focus on Visual Impairment

We are pleased to announce that booking for our next lunch-and-learn webinar is now open. This is the second in our 2017 series of webinars which are being offered free of charge to Members (and Pending Members) as part of CMSUK's quest to offer greater access to training and support for members.

'Designing homes with a focus on visual impairment' will be delivered by Anava Baruch, Managing Director & OT at Design For Independence.  This webinar will be delivered  on Friday 24th March 2017 at 12:00 noon.

The session will focus on the effect visual impairment has on the ability to function at home. During the session, Anava will discuss elements of the physical fabric of the property and considerations relating the interior design and technology.   

Aims of this session include:

  • To understand how visual impairments affect our vision and our ability to use vision for functional tasks
  • To provide some statistics
  • To discuss high risk areas such as stairs, bathroom, kitchen and ways for resolving/ minimising the difficulties to enhance independence and reduce risks at home

Anava Baruch Biography:

Anava is the managing director and clinical lead of Design for Independence, a private housing occupational therapy & accessible design company, whose services include the adaptation and design of living spaces for clients with cognitive, visual, physical and emotional impairments. The company specialises in furniture, equipment and technology fixtures and fittings to empower people who are less able. We also provide manual handling assessments and training as we believe this is an essential part of creating a safe home environment.

Anava has many years of experience working as a housing Occupational Therapist for both the private and public sector.  She has a BA in Occupational Therapy and an MSc in Ergonomics.

Anava acts as an expert witness (under Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules), specialising in accommodation, equipment and technology. Her knowledge and expertise have proven particularly useful for clients who do not want to move home and would prefer to have their property adapted to meet their needs. Anava is known for her ability to think out of the box and find creative solutions for complex problems.
