CMSUK Webinar: Mental Capacity, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLs) and related Legislation & Guidance; The basics

We are pleased to announce that booking for our next lunch-and-learn webinar is now open. This is the third in our 2017 series of webinars which are being offered free of charge to Members (and Pending Members), as part of CMSUK's quest to offer greater access to training and support for members.

'Mental Capacity, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLs) and related Legislation & Guidance; The basics' will be delivered by Karen Burgin, CMSUK Director & Clinical Director, Bush & Company. This online Webinar will take place online on Friday 7th April 2017 at 12:00 noon.  

The session will focus on providing a basic overview of the mental capacity act,  related legislation and the impact on case management practice.

Aims of this session include:

  • To provide an overview of The Mental Capacity Act, the key points and demystify the language used
  • To provide an overview of DoLs, how it relates to safeguarding and best interests
  • Help case managers identify additional learning needs in these areas

Karen Burgin Biography:

Karen is a Registered General Nurse by profession with 30 years’ experience of working within the field of neurosciences. She has worked within acute, post –acute, community and vocational rehabilitation settings for people who have sustained an acquired brain injury and has been responsible for the establishment and development of case management services within the statutory, voluntary and private sector.

Karen has been an active member of her local Headway for many years, a past Council member of BABICM.  She has been a Director of CMSUK since 2013 and is involved in the tripartite working group looking at establishing an educational pathway for case management

Karen has been a Director of Bush & Company since 2009 and has recently assumed the role of Clinical Director for the Company with responsibilities related to overall governance arrangements.

Karen is passionate about the delivery of high quality, efficient and effective services that keep the injured person at the forefront of the process.
